Danny’s Politics Titbit

For 12 years we have been in the grips of New Labour. There have been ups and downs, but Education has gained from the government. New schools have been going up around the country. Here at Welling we have first-hand experience of this as we have a remarkable new building to be proud of. However now it has become that time of year again when the tabloid newspapers are scrambling to the defence of the party they are going to back in the 2010 general election. With The Sun ditching labour with the three word headline of “labours lost it” I’ll tell you now, Labour’s corner looks pretty empty.

Back in 1997 Tony Blair famously said, “Ask me my three main agendas for government and I will say education, education, education.”
This was one of new Labour’s famous lines. Now with under 8 months until a general election, another line that will go down in history was thrown out of the mouth of the most powerful man in Britain when Gordon Brown said, “We will not cut funding to schools if we win the next election”. With a £65 billion debt hanging over our heads we know that public services will suffer losses. But it’s a light at the end of the tunnel to know that education will not be affected. Of course this is only if Labour wins, which in my view is doubtful.
