Diversity Rocks!
By Ruby Purcell

As you may already know, October is Black History Month in the UK and,
as we have learnt through the various things organised in school this
year, it is a time to celebrate diversity and learn about all the other
cultures that make up our nation.
Welling School has taken a lead this year in raising awareness
and understanding between races and different cultures through
citizenship lessons and assemblies, but we felt like something more was
also needed. Our school is filled with so many talented and interesting
people who come from very different backgrounds and cultures, which is
part of the reason why we decided to celebrate Black History Month with
an event where everybody’s talents and stories could be shared.

Is Welling Broke?
By Danny Hackett
In 2008 the world plunged into financial crisis.
With the
word ‘recession’ in the mainstream media every day, I decided to
investigate how the recession has and will affect Welling School. With
everybody tightening their belts, the government were sure to be doing
the same. Will they cut funding to government-controlled institutions
such as schools? If Gordon Brown wins the next general election will
his party keep their promises not to cut funding for schools?
Local
and national politics affect Welling school greatly, so earlier this
year I put the questions that mattered to the man with the answers,
none other than the school’s financial manager, Mr Rigmo.
